Introduction

This report is a quick reference for key tourism statistics produced by the Department of Research and Development. The Arrival Statistics are collected from International Arrivals to Lesotho on monthly basis through the use of Entry/Departure cards distributed to visitors upon arrival. LTDC covers 7 busy Ports of Entry to Lesotho . The information for 2008 includes information from 2 additional Ports of Entry covered by the Bureau of Statistics. Key tourism statistics produced from this type of information are International visitor numbers, source markets for arrivals to Lesotho , average length of stay, purpose of visit and Mode of transport used to arrive in Lesotho . Statistics on Accommodation are collected from all Accommodation Establishments in the country on quarterly basis. Information on number of Bed-nights sold, Revenue Accrued, types of establishments, employment and occupancy rates are produced from accommodation statistics. LTDC also undertakes Visitors' Survey on ad-hoc basis. This is mainly to supplement the afore mentioned basic statistics. In these surveys, information on profile of visitors, visitors' satisfaction regarding tourist facilities and services, etc is collected and analysed.
