OPPORTUNITIES IN TOURISM
In addition to development of basic infrastructure and additional accommodation facilities, the National Tourism Policy has identified and endorsed the development of the following investment opportunities by LTDC in collaboration with the private sector/rural communities:
 
•  Accommodation facilities or integrated resorts developments (boutiques, hotels, B&B's and lodges)
•  Boating excursions on dams and other water related recreational activities
•  Development of heliports for panoramic view of the majestic maloti mountain range
• ealth Retreats (growin Hg internationally in popularity), Lesotho has abundance of water and hot springs
•  Transport, communication and logistics
•  Business call centres
•  Establishment of golf estates
•  Upgrading rehabilitation and management of hospitality outfits
•  Development of traditional arts, crafts, pottery and wool/mohair products
•  Community based pony trekking establishments
•  Mountain biking, hiking and abseiling facilities
•  High altitude sports training facilities
•  Floriculture, agri-business and Horticulture
•  Entertainment establishments i.e. night clubs, cinemas and restaurants, ice rinks
•  Development of comfort and recreational facilities around major attractions
•  Ski-resorts , equipment and related services
•  Development of camping sites and camping equipment
•  Pony trekking and fly fishing facilities and services
•  4 x 4 trail facilities and related services
•  Parachuting and hot air ballooning facilities and services
•  Conferencing getaway venues
•  An ideal adventure film location
•  Hand, para and abseiling
•  Traditional and cultural entertainment
•  Orienteering and environmental education
•  Promoting Lesotho as a film location venue.
 

KINDS OF ASSISTANCE OFFERED BY LTDC TO ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS

•  Identification of investment opportunities in the tourism sector (Gearing up for 2010 Soccer World Cup hosted by South Africa ).

•  Devising and implementing general and educational tourism awareness programmes.

•  Advisory role to the private sector and coordination of private sector initiatives.

•  Establish and identify training needs and programmes in collaboration with tourism organizations such as Lesotho Council of Tourism (LCT).

•  Identify sources for international funding for such training programmes.

•  Assist with the development of business plans and appraise these to determine long-term viability.

•  Provide ongoing monitoring and after-care services (mentoring).
